CHANDIGARH: Burail jail is set to house some high-profile accused which include former ministers, senior IAS and IPS officers — arrested by the CBI for their alleged involvement in Jammu and Kashmir sex scandal.
The Chandigarh jail authorities have already received a message in this regard from their J&K counterparts. Sources told TOI that J&K police would be bringing 12 of the 14 accused to city.

Though the accused, including Sabeena, the alleged kingpin of the racket, are likely to be brought here on Saturday, but they could also arrive a day in advance.
All the accused would be produced in a local court on Saturday. The court order would also be significant regarding the stay of the accused in Burail jail, said sources. Also if the accused are not granted bail, it would be interesting to see what stand they take on their lodging here.
The accused include former J&K minister Ghulam Hassan Mir, former minister Raman Mattoo, also a serving MLA, suspended BSF DIG KC Pandhi, ex-J&K additional advocate general Anil Sethi, suspended DSP Md Ashraf Mir and hotel owner Riyaz Ahmed Kawa, besides suspended principal secretary Iqbal Khandey.

Sabeena's husband Abdul Hamid Shabir Langoo, tout Shabir Ahmed Laway alias Shabir Kala, will also be brought here. Out of the total 18 accused, CBI has filed chargehseet against 14 persons and according to SC directions the trial in Chandigarh would be held against these 14 only. 12 of them would be lodged here. While one accused is out on bail, Sethi remains absconding and has been declared a proclaimed offender.

The scandal, which shows the obnoxious face of officers-politicians-criminal nexus, had come to light after a porn CD featuring a minor girl started doing the rounds in Srinagar. The high court took suo moto notice of the racket and later handed over the probe to CBI.
As names of former ministers cropped up, the scandal threatened to topple the government.
